My Journey
I grew up in the Central Valley of California with 15 different varieties of fruit trees and a 40 x 40-foot garden growing in my backyard, year-round. Farm to table cuisine combined with my love for science, sent to me to UC Davis to study Nutrition Science. While in my last year of Graduate Studies for Nutrition, I had the privilege of caring for my mother in her final months battling cancer. This instilled a drive to become a Nurse, and I went on to become a RN and FNP. While my love for the science of lactation began during my nutrition studies, my passion for helping families grew from my own challenges feeding my children.
While nursing my two children, I dealt with oversupply, plugged ducts, mastitis, bottle refusal, extended and tandem nursing, Congenital Heart Defect and feeding difficulties (milk and solids) from a tongue tie, all while dealing with my own Postpartum Anxiety and pelvic torsion. I was in nursing graduate school full time , returning just 1 week after delivering my first child, and worked full-time with my second. I pumped for my kids between patients, despite a busy clinical schedule, hour long commutes, and unsupportive supervisors. I clearly remember how I felt at all of these stages, and how I just needed someone to help me navigate it all and simplify feeding challenges. Support is so vitally important in early parenthood. My practice is set up to empower you as a new parent, resolve your concerns and to help you find confidence with feeding your baby. Together we will come up with a care plan that is both practical and personal.
I have experience teaching newborn care and breastfeeding classes for a large Northern California hospital and managing a program for pregnant and postpartum woman with dual diagnosis. I have additional education in perinatal mood disorders, and have a special interest in the emotional well-being of new families. I currently work for a Department of Anesthesia in the SF Bay Area. I am a cafephile, avid baker, and retired marathoner, raising two outdoor play structure connoisseurs. In my spare time I attempt DIY projects.
